Initial consultation

Prior to your initial consultation with Doctor Kemp, the receptionist will ask you to complete a questionnaire so that details of your past medical history, medications and allergies can be recorded.

During the consultation, the doctor will ask you about your symptoms and record your relevant medical history. Your legs are then examined with illuminated magnification.  A Duplex Ultrasound examination is performed on all patients to assess the competency of all the superficial and deep veins in your leg.  There is a close relationship between the development of spider veins and varicose veins. Up to twenty percent of people with spider veins have underlying incompetent Saphenous veins and ultrasound allows us to detect this.

If your family or you have a significant history of blood clots then tests for thrombosis might be requested. For patients at higher risk of blood clots we sometimes give an injection of an anti-clotting agent (Clexane) just prior to treatment to reduce any risk of DVT.

Patients who have varicose veins require longer consultations because mapping of all underlying saphenous veins, their tributaries and deep veins is required.

Following your assessment it can then be decided whether your treatment is medical or cosmetic. You will then have the opportunity to discuss the recommended treatment pathway and ask Doctor Kemp any questions that you may have regarding your condition or the procedures.

An individual treatment plan is then generated and this will list the number and types of treatment sessions you will require.  This plan also provides an accurate breakdown of costs.

Full payment is required at the time of consultation and treatment sessions.
